Warm wood cabinetry, light countertops, and a welcoming place to gather give this Boulder kitchen a comfortable, connected feel. This kitchen remodeling project by Timberline Builders brings together peninsula seating, a central cooking island, and a countertop that incorporates the home’s large bay window.
The finished space provides distinct areas for preparing meals, cooking, and conversation, with complementary finishes connecting the room.
A kitchen remodel requires cabinets, appliances, lighting, and utilities to fit together within the available space. For this project, the construction plan included modifying the refrigerator opening for a larger appliance and making framing adjustments around the island.
The finished layout places the cooking surface on a central island beneath a stainless steel hood. Alongside it, a separate peninsula provides a broad work surface with seating on the outside edge.
This arrangement gives family and guests a place to sit near the kitchen while keeping seating separate from the cooking surface. Matching wood cabinetry connects the island, peninsula, and perimeter cabinets.
The large bay window is one of this kitchen’s defining features. The countertop extends into the window area, creating a usable surface with a view into the yard.
Accommodating that detail required planning around the existing window opening. The proposal included trimming the bench top, adjusting the window trim, and adding countertop supports.
In the finished kitchen, the counter beneath the window provides space for preparation, small appliances, and plants. It makes an existing architectural feature part of the kitchen’s everyday function while preserving its natural light and outdoor connection.
Three pendant lights define the peninsula seating area. Their warm light complements the cabinetry, while recessed ceiling lights provide illumination throughout the room.
The construction scope also called for under-cabinet lighting, electrical adjustments for the revised appliance layout, and new range ventilation. Plumbing work included connections for the sink, dishwasher, and refrigerator.
These practical details need to be coordinated with cabinet placement and appliance specifications. Drywall repairs and finish trim were also included in the scope to address areas affected by the work.
The finished kitchen combines rich wood tones with lighter surfaces and stainless steel accents.
Wood cabinets provide visual continuity throughout the room, while glass-front upper cabinet doors introduce display space. Light countertops contrast with the cabinetry and extend across the peninsula and window area.
The stainless steel refrigerator and range hood complement the warm finishes. Together with the pendant lights and broad window view, these elements give the kitchen a welcoming appearance without distracting from its practical layout.

This project illustrates how an existing feature such as a bay window can become part of an updated kitchen’s workspace. Cabinet placement, seating, lighting, and appliance accommodations all contribute to how the room looks and functions.
